The Green Key is the international hallmark for companies in the tourism and recreation sector that are seriously and verifiably engaged in environmental care within their organisations. De Hoge Veluwe National Park has been intensively engaged in this for many years and, in 2009, was once again awarded the golden Green Key.
Many of the environmental measures taken by De Hoge Veluwe are not immediately recognisable, such as energy-saving boilers and the use of environmentally-friendly cleaning agents. More commonly recognised measures include the use of environmentally-friendly paper, water-saving taps and environmentally sound forms of transport, such as the availability of the famous 1700 White Bikes, free of charge. Through these and many other measures, the Park does much more about the environment than required by the applicable laws and regulations. 'A very positive effect thereof is that it keeps environmental costs per visitor to an absolute minimum', says Richard van de Vegte, Operations Assistant.
In Europe, more than 450 companies are currently affiliated to the Green Key international hallmark. For more information, please visit http://www.greenkey.nl
